Srinagar , Jammu and Kashmir

The capital of Jammu and Kashmir is all you ever dreamed of for paradise on earth. It has the tall snow capped mountains, the valleys which are so green, the flowers that make all of it merry and the crisp air that seems to give you a new lease of life. Yes Srinagar is truly everything that you ever expected from a place and maybe more. There is no reason for you to dilly dally while you are planning a trip to this wonderful place. It should be taken for granted. Situated on the banks of the river Jhelum, Srinagar is surrounded by beautiful lakes like Dal, Nagin and Anchar, whose glittering waters reflecting the rays of the sun is a sight to behold. Its vividly vibrant & beautiful houseboats sailing along the scenic Dal Lake against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayan snow clad mountains makes Srinagar a dream destination for every traveller. You may have seen the beauty of the Dal lake numerous times but actually being there it is a completely different experience. Some of Srinagar's best kept natural beauties is at the sprawling Mughal Gardens - which houses the Shalimar Bagh & Nishat Bagh. This is one of the places which has always beenruled by some of the foremost dynasties in the country. Recent excavations have found that this place was a hub of civilization 5000 years ago. And why would it not be. Srinagar is a place that holds a charm that can never fade with age. Bowing down in the Shakaracharya temple, a boat ride in the Dal Lake and shopping for the finest Pashmina shawls, Srinagar is definitely an unforgettable experience.

  • Dal Lake

"Dal Lake is a lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The urban lake, which is the second largest in the state, is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the \"Jewel in the crown of Kashmir\"[1] or \"Srinagar's Jewel\".[2] The lake is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting.[3][4][5]\nThe shore line of the lake, is about 15.5 kilometres (9.6 mi), is encompassed by a boulevard lined with Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. Scenic views of the lake can be witnessed from the shore line Mughal gardens, such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir [6] and from houseboats cruising along the lake in the colourful shikaras.[7] During the winter season, the temperature sometimes reaches ?11 °C (12 °F), freezing the lake.[5][8]\nThe lake covers an area of 18 square kilometres (6.9 sq mi) and is part of a natural wetland which covers 21.1 square kilometres (8.1 sq mi), including its floating gardens. The floating gardens, known as \"Rad\" in Kashmiri, blossom with lotus flowers during July and August. The wetland is divided by causeways into four basins; Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and Nagin (although Nagin is also considered as an independent lake). Lokut-dal and Bod-dal each have an island in the centre, known as Rup Lank (or Char Chinari) and Sona Lank respectively.[8][9]\nAt present, the Dal Lake and its Mughal gardens, Shalimar Bagh and the Nishat Bagh on its periphery are undergoing intensive restoration measures to fully address the serious eutrophication problems experienced by the lake. Massive investments of around US $275 million (INR1100 crores) is being made by the Government of India to restore the lake to its original splendour.[5][8][9][10][11]"
