Thekkady is India’s largest wildlife sanctuary and is a dream destination for all tourist. All you get here is nature and beauty. It is the location of the very famous Periyar national park. This is one of the biggest sanctuaries in the country and very important for the elephant safaris and the preservation of elephants. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary offers you the sights of such flora and fauna that they will take you completely by surprise with their beauty. The biodiversity in the Western Ghats is quite unique. Thekkady showcases that beauty very well indeed. There are some great attractions in and around Thekaddy. Murikkady is a place which gives you the sight and smell of some absolutely great coffee plantations. Chellat Kovil with its range of waterfalls is simply beautiful. The Mangala Devi Temple is one of the most glorious places to visit. The view from the temple premises is spectacular and one can see part of Eastern Ghats and some villages from adjacent state of Tamil Nadu. Lastly the Plantation resort here produces the highest amount of cardamom in the world and should definitely be visited by all. The 120 years old 'Surki' dam built across Peryiar, Poorna in Vedic parlance, is a major tourist attraction. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 777 Sq.Kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25 Sq.Kms.The state's sole Tiger reserve, Thekkady, with its bountiful treasures of tropical flora and fauna is the ultimate reservoir of many an endangered species and a rich tribal culture. Thekkady is a pleasant heaven on earth for those who love nature in its wild manifestations.

  • Periyar National Park


    "Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (PNP) is a protected area in the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta in Kerala, south India. It is notable as an elephant reserve and a tiger reserve. The protected area covers an area of 925 km2 (357 sq mi). 350 km2 (140 sq mi) of the core zone was declared as the Periyar National Park in 1982.\nThe park is often called the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary or Thekkady. It is located high in the Cardamom Hills and Pandalam Hills of the southern Western Ghats along the border with Tamil Nadu. It is 4 km (2.5 mi) from Kumily, approximately 100 km (62 mi) east of Kottayam, 110 km (68 mi) west of Madurai and 120 km (75 mi) southeast of Kochi.[1]"
