Nalgonda , Andhra Pradesh

The Nagarjuna sagar Srisailam tiger reserve is one of the most important tiger reserve projects undertaken by the country as this is a place which provides the perfect natural habitat for the royal Bengal tigers. Though the reservoirs and temples of Srisailam are major attraction for many tourists and pilgrims, this is a place that is today being actively developed as ne of the most important tiger reserves this country has ever seen. This is the area that consist the ruins of the Nagarjuna Vishva Vidyalaya which was run by the great scholar Nagarjuna, a preacher of the Mahayana Buddhism. This was one of the main centres of Buddhist learning and has a lot of evidence of it being an extremely important place. The ruins of a fort of the 3rd century BCE Indian ruler, Ikshwaku Chandragupta overlook the Nirjivapuram (Lifeless city) valley. The ancient fort of king Pratap Rudra of the Kakatiya dynasty and several other forts are visible on the banks of the Krishna River. An ancient wall constructed there by the Kakateeyas is an impressive historic feature. These are testimony to the fact that Nagarjunasagar was one of the most important places in history. Today this area is very well guarded as a tiger reserve. One of the biggest problems in the area is the armed extremists which degrade the forest to a large extent and thus it becomes extremely difficult to preserve this beautiful forest. There are also a number of tribes that inhabit this land and any effort of relocating then is absolutely futile. Yet this is one of the most beautiful places that you will come across in India and should definitely be visited for its rich past and present.
