Mcleodganj is fondly known s the Little Lhasa or Dhasa. And why should it not be. This is a place that is filled with the largest population of refugees from Tibet and the land is very similar to Tibet. When you enter Mcleodganj, for a while you think you have some to a completely different country. Situated on the Dhauladhar range, this is an incredible place to be in. With the beautiful Himalayas looming onto the little town and the charm of this hamlet, with its lovely surroundings and ever friendly people, today Mcleodganj sees a lot of tourists visiting it every year. This isa place that was very well developed by the British. The cantonment in Dharamshala greatly aided in their access to this small but extremely beautiful hill station which was a favourite among many Britishg viceroys over the generations. This town slowly came under the Tibetan influences in the recent years. Today,tourism is an important industry in McLeodGanj, but many people come here to study Tibetan Buddhism, culture, crafts, etc. The town is also known for Tibetan handicrafts, thangkas, Tibetan carpets, garments and other souvenirs. The Naam Art Gallery here is a very interesting place to visit which showcases the works of some foreign artists that made Dharamshala their home. The church St John in the Wilderness and the Dal Lake are some of the charming places to visit here. There are many NGOs that are established here and help in preserving this wonderful and unique place. There is so many places to visit here that you will never run out of options. Be it from learning a new culture to serving the society in small ways to enjoying the beauty of the Himlayas, there is no place like Mcleodganj.
