Anantnag is one of the districts of the Kashmir Valley situated in its South and South western direction at a distance of 52 Kms of Srinagar. It is famous for its countless springs and streams and is the gateway to the Kashmir Valley. It is also called the granary of the Kashmir Valley as it is very fertile agriculturally and is one of the most developed places in the valley. The district is predominantly rural and situated at an average height of 1700 meters above sea level. It’s significant for being an important halt for the ‘Amarnath Yatra’ that takes place in the summer despite the unstable conditions in the region.
A great place for a holiday, Anantnag is another wonder placed in the mountainous Himalayan ranges. There are various places of interest for tourists in the city of Anantnag and these include hot springs, lakes, temples, shrines and few more places. There are two sulphur springs that are located in the city and also countless natural springs that provide fresh water. Malik Nag, Nag Bal and Salag Nag are the main springs in the place. These are popular places to visit for the locals as well.
One of the fascinating things about Anantnag is espite being quite close to the border and disputed lands, this is a place which is famous for its religious tolerance. There are shrines of both Hindus and Muslims and both are equally revered. The main attractions of this place which you should visit while you are here are the Sun Temple, Shrine of Aishmuqam, Tomb of Baba Hyder Reshi, Masjid Syed Shab, Martand Temple, Naghbal and such. You are surely not going to run out if places to visit. There weather is typically that of mountains with cold winters and thus it makes for a truly pleasant summer retreat.
