One of the places to have contributed to the literary richness of the country, this is a city which is the absolute nerve centre of the Malayalam literature. Today, six major Malayalam newspapers – Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhoomi, Deshabhimani, Deepika, Madhyamam and Mangalam – and around thirty periodicals are published from Kottayam. Kottayam is also home to several book publishers in Malayalam such as D. C. Books, Labour India Publications and Current Books. In the state where literature is the very base, Kottayam is the nerve centre of the whole activity.
This is a temple which is a mix of many Hindu temples and Christian churches. These dot the whole landscape of this place. Some of them are the Thirunakkara Mahadeva temple, Kumaranalloor Devi temple, and churches known as Valiya Palli, Cheriya Palli and Marthoma Palli among many other such buildings. This is a city which reflects the old faiths with great harmony.
