Malappuram is the main town in the district with the same name in Kerala. It is also one of the places which is covered with small beautiful mountains which in turn are covered with lush greenery bonded by several fresh water streams flowing through the city which makes it a perfect picture of harmony. There are very few who can resist this wonderful city. this is a place which has been recognised for being one of the cleanest municipality and coupled with the wondrous beauty of this place this makes a perfect getaway for very obvious reasons. Malppuram has for a very long time been the military base for many activities in Kerala. This is a city that was established in the ancient times and has seen the capture of many chieftains from a time where the only inhabitation of this place was by the many tribes. It was also the centre for many Islamic and Vedic studies and is one of the cultural centres of Kerala. Malappuram has been a very significant place for ages and has seen history that we do not even know of. The whole city which is actually a completely hilly terrain has been divided into five parts namely Up Hill, Down Hill, Melmuri, Panakkad and Anakkayam. Kottakunnu is one of the new structures built in the city which is very famous. It has an incredible open air auditorium. At Kottakkunnu one can see traces of the first fort built by the Zamorins of Kozhikode. The other things to look for are the beautiful temples and mosques that dot the whole landscape. This is definitely a city to look out for.
